In a unanimous decision, Conneaut Lake Borough Council approved the revised scope and plan for the Water Street/Fireman’s Beach revitalization project on September 14, giving the green light to move forward with construction this Spring. The Construction schedule calls for work to begin on Water Street this winter, with a target completion date of Memorial Day weekend, and for work to recommence on Fireman’s Beach after the Summer season. The Barbara J Cruises, LLC is a newly formed non-profit corporation with the intention of restoring the historic boat to its former glory for the enjoyment of all area residents and visitors. The re-opening of this popular attraction is another significant step in the overall plans for the future revitalization of Conneaut Lake. The reopening of this boat is made possible by the generous contributions from local businesses, individuals and the Conneaut Lake Community Development Committee.
This funding will be used to bring regional artists, storytellers and ethnographers into collaboration with community residents, youth and young adults to assist in bringing back to life key elements of the Conneaut Lake township/borough’s rich history. A comprehensive fully engineered plan for a public art trail will be developed. The project is part of a larger National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant that has been awarded to Conneaut Lake, in partnership with Allegheny College.
Conneaut Lake’s 1st and 2nd Street intersections will be modernized with new traffic lights, as a result of a $220,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The installation of these new traffic signals is an important component of the ongoing Water Street revitalization project.
The Memorial Park at Water Street and Conneaut Lake will be getting some improvements, thanks to a $12,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club. This donation will fund the purchase and installation of new benches, pole lights and flower urns. These upgrades will help to better showcase this beautiful park and its unique historic features.
